![]() Today, smart cards come in many form factors, from a credit card size that fits in your wallet to a hardware security key that fits on your keychain. There’s only one problem… the typical credit card-shaped smart card didn’t work well, if at all, on mobile devices without additional hardware and software. You must just be aware that the key have existed outside of its secure container and the risk that it is stolen exists.Certificate-based smart cards have been one of the most trusted and proven implementations of multi-factor authentication for over 20 years. I assume that some keys could support that kind of import of the key pair. ![]() The card will no longer allow to export the private key, but that key can be stored (in a secure place) to be able to later decode a message if the card is lost or destroyed. You generate a compatible key pair (algo and size suitable for the card) outside on a computer, and import both the public and private keys on the card.
